Cold as Ice (Tea) by Four-eigner: Benefits of Drinking Tea

What are some benefits or drawbacks of drinking tea?

First, I want to apologize for not posting as frequently as I would like; life has thrown me some curve balls, so my blogging hobby has been on the back burner for a bit.

So, other than being thrown into the Boston Harbor and starting a war that lead to the creation of the United States of America, what is tea good for?

Well for starters, many people only consider certain kinds of tea leaves and processing of them to be four or five varieties (green, black, Oolong, white and pu-erh, which is a type of black tea).  So, those are going to be the focus.  My apologies to those who drink other teas.  Actually no, fuck that.  I ain’t apologizin’.

Within these four (or five) kinds of “real” tea, there is a compound called a flavonoid.  Flavinoids are compounds that act as antioxidants and eliminate free radicals.  For those who do not have a chemistry background, they help to prevent bad things.  Those bad things are called cancer, heart disease and clogged arteries, among other diseases.  Tea is also lower in caffeine than coffee, meaning that mental alertness might be increased without as many side effects of drinking coffee.  Tea is also incredibly low Calorie, with a whole whopping two fucking Calories per eight fluid ounces of the shit.  I am pretty sure most people can spare those Calories in their diet.  Tea is also a better alternative to other beverages if water is not your thing.

Some of the problems I’ve seen with tea comes from the additives.  Adding milk, or cream, and/or sugar to your tea increases the amount of Calories consumed per serving.  Other problems come from teas with plant based laxatives, as there can be a loss of water and nutrients via pooping.  Another problem comes from tea supplements, as the claims on the bottle are not backed by the FDA, and may cause other problems.

In short, tea is a good beverage to have in place of other beverages, like alcohol or soda.  Secondly, there might be other benefits, but do not expect miracles to happen if you drink tea.  Problems mentioned that tea assists with can also have an increased risk from life style.
